Do You Have Low Thyroid Level Symptoms?

Low Thyroid Level Symptoms Are Rife.

The modern lifestyle that we lead causes low thyroid level symptoms…

Your thyroid is in many ways a very vulnerable organ and is intimately connected with your body chemistry and function and can directly increase metabolism or cause a decrease in metabolism.  When there are problems with your thyroid it can cause exaggerated metabolism, high or low,  which may cause you put on weight easily or not be able to put weight on regardless of what you eat.

Low thyroid level symptoms, among other things, will cause your metabolism to slow down.  Your doctor can of course arrange for a variety of tests to be done, which may involve saliva, urine or commonly blood tests.

In our modern lifestyle it is easy to experience a lack of iodine, and while in some countries this is added to table salt (not something I recommend consuming), there are better ways to get sufficient iodine.   One very good source of iodine is kelp which can easily be added to your diet, and there are some other things you will want to consider supplementing to support your thyroid.

It is always advisable, when looking at supplementing your diet to use whole food options rather than isolated tablets, however, you can discuss these with your health practitioner.  Some signs or low thyroid level symptoms can include physical and mental sluggishness, skin or hair problems, and increased sensitivity to temperature.

The interesting thing with iodine, is that too much can also cause similar symptoms, so it is wise to consult with a professional, particularly if you are looking for isolated tablets to supplement your food intake.  As mentioned it is always a much safer option to add whole foods, such as kelp, chlorella and or ‘green drinks’ like barley or a wheat grass combination.

Some nutrients to consider that support the thyroid include D3 (get some sunshine directly onto your skin each day… can be difficult), selenium and zinc (often depleted from our soils).  While some of the whole foods above do not contain iodine as such, they may contain some and many other supportive nutrients.

Coffee while maybe providing some short term relief for tiredness, will actually do more harm than good.  Being a stimulant it will cause your body to increase cortisol secretions and will lead to exhaustion as well as ultimately increasing low thyroid level symptoms.

One way to do a simple test on how your thyroid is working, is to have a thermometer by your bed, and before you get up in the morning, take your temperature, and record it in your lifestyle journal.  If your temperature is consistently low, this is a good indication that your thyroid is not functioning as well as it should.

Don’t despair though, there is plenty you can do to help remedy your low thyroid level symptoms.  Of course going to your doctor to have relevant medical tests is a good precaution, however, in addition it is a good idea ti educate yourself by doing a lot of your own research on things that you can do to improve your low thyroid level symptoms and then discuss these with your doctor.

Medical solutions are generally not aimed at correcting the cause of a problem, so much as treating the symptoms, and often a medication is prescribed which while helping to correct the immediate symptoms, it does little or can even inhibit the ability for your body’s own restoration mechanisms.  Sometimes, particularly when supplementing with various hormones, it causes your body to not be able to produce these for itself, so makes fixing the cause more difficult or impossible.

Of course regular exercise is always something that will not only boost your metabolism but will benefit your thyroid and your body as a whole.  It provides many advantages and will fight those low thyroid level symptoms.

I am not a doctor, and cannot give medical advice, however, I do encourage people to take responsibility for their health, and where possible find a medical practitioner who will support you in your quest for better health as well as assisting with finding causes and not just treating the low thyroid level symptoms.
